The Papua New Guinea Institute of Directors (PNGID) has announced the appointment of Ms Megan Taureka-Andrew as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Taureka-Andrew brings extensive experience borne from her 30-year career in public relations, marketing and networking, having worked across PNG and in all sectors – community, business, and government – and most recently with Cricket PNG.

PNGID is an independent organisation for directors and business leaders that works to improve the quality of governance and directorship.

“As Chief Executive Officer, Ms Taureka-Andrew will seek to amplify PNGID’s vision to raise the standard of good governance. We will continue to do strengthen the role of company directors through tailored corporate governance and leadership training programs and embracing ethics, excellence, and professional practice,” said PNGID’s outgoing President, Sharon Kupp-Tengdui.

PNGID is working to increase female membership numbers, and the appointment of a female executive demonstrates the pathways available to women and men. While female membership numbers have increased in recent years, Women are still under-represented on company boards and barriers to career progression remain.

PNGID aims to address this through the provision of greater networking and peer support, and training tailored to women professionals in PNG.

Ms Taureka-Andrew’s recruitment was made possible by Australia’s support, through the PNG-Australia Partnership and the Australia-PNG Economic Partnership. Further support includes the ongoing engagement of an experienced short-term technical advisor, Brian Riches, working directly with PNGID’s CEO to bolster governance and leadership capabilities within the organization.

The board of PNGID extends its gratitude to the Australian Government for its ongoing support and congratulates Ms Taureka-Andrew on her appointment.
