Director Bio
Brian Riches is a highly experienced professional with over thirty years in corporate, executive management, and public administration.
His qualifications include an MBA from Southern Cross University, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland.
Brian is also a member of several professional organisations, including the Australian Institute of Management, Australian Institute of Public Accountants, Australian Institute of Financial Accountants, PNG Institute of Directors, and CPA Papua New Guinea.
Throughout his career, Brian has demonstrated expertise in executive management, strategic change management, and corporate governance across various industries such as ports, maritime infrastructure, aviation, hospitality, agriculture, and forestry. As the Principal of Brian Riches Limited, he offers professional management services, governance, compliance, and change management solutions tailored to the needs of organisations in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Brian’s notable achievements include his transformative leadership as CEO of PNG Ports Corporation, where he improved operational culture, performance, profitability, and service. His efforts were recognised by the Asian Development Bank, which named PNG Ports one of the country’s best-performing state-owned enterprises. He also contributed significantly to the PNG Medium Term Development Strategy and served as president of the Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance.
Brian’s consultancy work includes mid-term reviews for the Australian Red Cross International Program in PNG and advisory roles for the Secretariat of the Special Parliamentary Committee for Public Sector Reform and Service Delivery. His leadership roles extend to capacity building and institutional strengthening in various sectors, notably enhancing operations at Post PNG Limited, the PNG Forest Authority, and the PNG Cocoa and Coconut Research Institute.
In recognition of his contributions to public administration and commerce, Brian was awarded the “Officer of the Order of the Logohu” in 2012. His directorships include Vice-President of the PNG Institute of Directors Incorporated, Treasurer of PNG RSPCA, and Director roles at the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., Papua Club, and Rotary Club of Boroko. Brian’s extensive experience and commitment to PNG’s development are evident in his impactful initiatives and leadership roles.
